About
Instructional design, leadership, multimedia, and innovation in service of teaching and learning.
I'm Lucas Horton, an instructional designer and leader focused on helping educators build clear, engaging learning experiences. My work sits at the intersection of pedagogy, media, and the systems that make good teaching scalable.
As Director of Instructional Innovation in the College of Education at The University of Texas at Austin, I lead teams and partnerships that turn ambitious teaching goals into practical designs. I've created courses, modules, faculty development, and digital resources that hold up in real classrooms and online environments.
Multimedia is a core part of how I work. I develop video, interactive media, and visual systems that clarify complex ideas, support inquiry, and give instructors and learners tools they can actually use. The aim is always the same: media that serves learning, not decoration.
Innovation, for me, means improving how we design, produce, and share instruction. It involves developing new workflows, thoughtful use of learning platforms, and approaches that lower friction for instructors while raising the quality of the experience for students.
